Oh la, now that is happy news
So HLM talked today to both the new person who applied to rent our old place and to the landlady. Apparently the credit check went through just fine, and all parties are agreed that they will sign the lease on Saturday! Yayyyyyy!!!
Now, the way this has been going, one or more parties could still get hit by a bus in the next 4 days. However, we are taking this as final enough news to stop showing the place and, for me, draw up a budget. And about budgets, by the way... they are one fantabulous invention. This is not a "you can spend $13.54 on little expenses today" kind of budget, this is more the kind that says "good for you, you put away X at the beginning of the month, therefore whatever you're spending now is just fine." I like that. I don' t like feeling nervous and oh-dear-what-if-I-shouldn't-spend-this every time money leaves my hands. Anyway, for the first time since December I allowed myself to sit down with the oldpencil and paper Excel spreadsheet and do the math. And I, uh, yeah. Holy shit, I'm RICH!! I keep wondering if I've forgotten to factor in some huge expense like, oh, say, another mortgage. But nope. Looks like I should be able to live comfortably, save enough toward retirement to sleep at night and still save/spend about a K per month on the condo. Oh, happy wiggle! That's more than I was hoping for. :)
