Wow, thanks
I got a much more helpful person on the phone at the mortgage company today, who told me they were already working to get that $900 back into my escrow account where it belongs! Yay! Apparently they think they can do this, and of course they are large and powerful where I am small and clueless, so perhaps they really can. :)
This is a very good thing, not least because they couldn't give me a copy of the check they wrote, which the city was asking for--there is no check written for my account. I and the many like me are so puny that instead they make one lump-sum payment for all the city taxes of everyone in my area for whom they escrow taxes. That payment, by the way, doesn't even go to the city but to a third-party company that "handles taxes" for the city. It is this mysterious company that probably still has the money--that would explain why the city doesn't have it yet. Who would have guessed it was so complicated?
I had dreams about large spiderwebs last night. Large funnel webs, to be specific, near something I would have liked to get close to and pick up (a book I left in a field or backyard?). Sigh. I hate that.
