Left coast summit

Nonstop everything, part 2 of 3, is ending. At least this time there were nonstop flights.

Basically I was home for one full day, which I spent largely attending the joint birthday party over at Blue-Green Street. It was really, really nice to have the bug & squirrel in one place after I’d been missing them both! Squirrel and Perse both liked their gifts from me, and I met some new people I liked before going home to do a few Productive Things and crash out. Then the next day I packed up an entirely different set of clothes, and flew to the left coast.

The summit was mostly pleasant, mostly because I was blowing off everything else. There was some pressure because I was presenting a lot (co-presenting two different 1-hr talks on Tuesday, then a 15-min talk alone on Wednesday), but even I can handle a 2-day work-week after a full week of Real Vacation. There were dinners out both nights, first with the summit people and then with my own California team; and the hotel did their breakfast bacon crispy, so at least I was fed.

My body recovered from its many mosquito bites and the hard workouts of last week, and started complaining about not working out.

I never time shifted, and this morning I woke up super early to the disappointing news that the squirrel isn’t doing the upcoming coaching class with me and our friend H after all. That was sad, and I’m really disappointed at not being able to do a thing together, even as I’m also generally glad that we each know our own boundaries and are able to say no to each other. Le sigh. After that I couldn’t sleep, but at least today I was up in plenty of time to take a long Lyft ride to an old friend’s house and meet his... new kittens!!!

Yeah, totally worth it. They are about four months old, and their tiny faces just slay me. After a little warming up, they were more than happy to chase my purse strap around the living room. And then to the bart and the airport, which was a nice chance to stand for a while and to actually see the city life.

I'm glad I gave myself full travel days on Saturday, Monday and today. Sure that's too much travel for one 7-day period, but it's better than trying to travel and also get a bunch of other stuff done.
