I knew it...

Having babies really does fuck with your head. Mothers' brains became more active in the... primitive parts of the brain that have been linked to emotional response. Uh... with no disrespect for those who welcome the changes, gyack!! I've been emotional enough lately, thanks, and the thought of my brain being messed with like that utterly turns my stomach, "natural" though it may be. Keep your sticky little hands out of my head, kids.

In other news (because I don't feel like talking about... that), I now have tons of time to contemplate the design of the perfect kitchen and closets without reality arising to put bounds on it. Because on election night we signed up to buy some wickedly expensive, strong, insulative, three panes of glass with two different kinds of gas filling the space between them windows. They're fabulous, and we'll be paying for them through January. We're getting eight, which isn't enough for the whole place but probably is quite enough to make a difference. I'm surprised HLM was willing to go with the good ones and get so many, but pleasantly so. Snuggly warm is a good way to be. :) So I think we're doing the right thing.

Which reminds me of The Clock in the Walls. Er, not the fabulously eerie children's book by John Bellairs... er, maybe that too, a little. ;) But really, we did have a clock in our walls, in the thermostat, which we forgot to adjust for Daylight Savings Time this weekend. Didn't figure it out until we were both freezing last night at about 10:30 and noticed it was set to 62 degrees... doh. It's fixed now.

It's really funny that you posted that article about the brain - I read it before, and thought of you (knowing you'd have that reaction). Hee hee, I know you so well. :) Anyway, I actually found the article a bit of a comfort...in the sense that if I did decide to have kids, it's good to know that I'd automatically change a little to be better at it.

Have fun with the windows, I'm a big fan of being snuggly and warm!

Now if only they'd been able to show similar things in terms of increased earning power among modern human females.

NO SHITE!

I disagree with one thing!! _tavin_ watches the babies all the time, and there are moments when he is better at telling their cries apart from other babies than I am.

Actually... tony wakes up when Josie cries... not me. He's much more in tune with what her sries mean and what she needs... which is bad since I'm her main caregiver, but I'm getting there slowly... more like Pavlov's dog than any chemical alteration.

Yeah.:/ Though not to everything it says, just the fact that dads don't get it too. Cause, I really think they do.
