Windows, books, and so forth
We have our super-snazzy windows installed, kind of (some of the wood from the frames needs to be put back in tomorrow). Since it's neither really cold nor really windy, I am at the moment not impressed by our use of that money. I suspect I'll be singing a different tune when it's zero degrees out though.
I'm done with the Alvin Maker series, and can only say that was pretty tricky of Orson Scott Card. I had a great idea about 100 pages into The Crystal City that Alvin should make the crystal city by pouring all of his blood, all of himself into the river, and end up living on as the city itself. I got this idea the second it was obvious that the blood/water stuff was the building material that would work. And I thought it would have nicely created the city AND satisfied Card's driving desire to make Alvin into a martyr, but with a neat twist since he could maybe sort of live on as the shelter for his community of Makers. I like it when people live on as shelters (psst... Mother of Winter by Barbara Hambly, though that might only be good if you've read the Darwath trilogy already). Unfortunately OSC didn't share my vision and instead just... did what he did. You know. :b
We had a new guy start in my group yesterday. As a new person myself it's maybe not good that I feel this, but I am always nervous when the group grows. Each person has the chance to mess up the dynamics that have formed, and I have no idea where Shooie is going to fit in emotionally. I suppose I'd find out faster if I stopped writing and started showering / getting my butt to work.

The first time I read this I read it as "I suppose I'd find out faster if I stopped showering/getting my butt to work." I was like, um kay. :)
Perhaps this new person will turn out to be the friend you are missing at work. I hope so anyway. :)
