apfelsingail tagged me with a classic "tell us 7 weird things" meme, probably because I said I had missed blogging during my week-long silence. Okay.
- I am not very possessive of "my" space. I love to sit in public spaces doing my thing and watching people wandering through, and in a lot of ways I also miss having roommates wandering through my living room. I miss the common areas of dorms and college living groups. I don't understand the desire to own land. I tend to forget that other people are into it... the whole space thing, I mean. Which is a mistake, because most people are, and that's what's normal.
- Friday night at dinner I said "Fuck you, sock toe!".
heisenbug said "I bet that sentence has never been spoken before" and I said "I can almost guarantee you it has." The people who have said this are probably knitters of my own generation, working on their first sock, like I was.
- I don't like studying religion or history. Especially history, because at least some of the religious myths are amusing (it's turtles all the way down)! With apologies to the many, many history buffs out there, stuff that doesn't exist anymore is just not of much interest to me. YOU study it, if you disagree.
- I passed someone wearing a Jack Florey t-shirt the other day and I realized the logo on it was meant to look like the Jack Daniels logo. Really. I just realized this, after seeing these things around for lo these last 13 years. The MIT folks on my list know how silly this is. :)
- Twice in my life, I've had spans of around a week where I haven't felt like reading. The first time, a drug was involved. The second time was last week. Both times scared me, and I was delighted when I could pick up a book and enjoy it again.
- My mother says she knew I would be a city girl even when I was very young, and I believe her. Whatever it is, it's deeply emotionally ingrained. (As a side note, my dad used to despise city people, and I'm sure in his less tolerant moments he still does. He also likes owning land. I can forgive him this, because I know people with very different emotional responses to things can be freaky.)
- My spiderweb phobia has decreased a lot in the last year. Yesterday I was helping
taegubcrusade move, and I brushed against a cobweb with my elbow. I shifted away without jumping, gasping or even being scared. It was soft. That was a first for me. (Later in the move, it was gone; I suspect it did not survive the Tempurpedic mattress coming through.) I wonder what it would be like to not be afraid of cobwebs at all, and if I'll experience that in my lifetime. I didn' t ask for, or anticipate, this lessening of fear.

as for history, i don't care so much about the past as such; but i keep finding i need to learn about it to understand the present, how things got to where they are...

My ideal world has little "retreat cubbies" all over it. :)

I like the aboriginal Australian creation myths that involve dreams. That sounds so wonderful to me. I'm also inordinately amused by the trickster gods, especially the Native American Coyote.
I'm right there with you with the spiderwebs. My main problem with them is that the indicate the near presence of spiders, and as wonderful as the spiders sound in mythology and in Charlotte's Web, they give me the creeps.

The sock toe is going much better this time, after the cursing and frogging...

Something that gave us a private suite, but had some areas in common with other people, would be ideal, I think.

Maybe next time around, although I don't want to move any time soon.
