Knitting? Check. Kitty snuggles? Check.

I had people over for a craft night last night. I love having people over... there were 8.5 people there at the fullest point, doing everything from literary criticism to musical composition (some knitting, some dreamcatcher making and some beading occurred as well). It was basically old friends plus Apples, who I would perhaps like to be be old friends with someday, and of course the Galica who is simply not old enough to be old friends with. The hot spiced cider crossed all boundaries and was the most popular attendee of the evening. All in all, it got bigger than I thought it would and went better than I thought it would (I mean, I wasn't even the one who started the late-night acro!) and maybe I'll have another one after the holidays. (I'll probably still be working on the same sweater, too, though I got over 3" of the sleeve done last night and that gives me some hope for the future. What would it take to get that much done every weekend day? And how depressing is it that the same amount of knitting will be about 1" worth when I'm working on the front and back of the thing? Agh.)

Here's some yoga progress for those who are interested...

Hmm. It doesn't look much better to me, actually. This isn't my best scorpion -- if my knees are bent more then the feet come a LOT closer to the head. But we were in a hurry taking this picture, since the camera was about to die.... and the real improvement here is that I can go into it with confidence in the middle of the room. Confidence means it might take me one or two tries to get it, but no more than that, and it's usually on the first attempt now, and I can fall out of it with total safety so there's not the worry factor.

I would SO LOVE to experience this with feet-to-head. I'm not sure I can do it safely, but today I may try to do this in such a way that I can lean the whole thing forward, shins on a wall, and get more leverage toward the final pose. (What's the worst that can happen, I drop myself on my throat? Eh, I'm sure that doesn't hurt.)

Weightlifting before that, though. And coffee before that.

That sounds like a really, really fun night. The worst thing about grad school is that I don't have a lot of time to make stuff...
Hopefully I'll be able to get into that again in December.

My semester is over on 10 December, and we officially get 12/24-1/1 off, but since I work out of Graduate Admissions, December is kind of a slowish month for us, so I generally take a week of vacation time before the holidays and we go to Los Angeles to see the Bear's brother and sister-in-law. I usually bring some beading stuff and lots of reading material.

i want to take a picture of me in that pose now. In breakdancing from a handstand its called a "halfback" and considered a stall/freeze move.

its fun!

thanks for the inspiring photos!

well, that is one of them. I do a modified one where I will go from hs into a one forearm/one outstretched arm stand.

Hollowbacks are a scorpion pose while doing a handstand, not from forearms, though now that you mention it, it would be a cool move!

A craft party is a brilliant idea! If I only knew how/were motivated to make things...

I wanted to have a tea party this last birthday, but it didn't quite work out. I may still have one later just because.

Scorpionness!

Woooooo! Very nice! As you've probably seen from the pics of my forearm stands at circus school, I still have quite a ways to go, but your picture is my goal! (Do you feel any altitude sickness yet?)

Oh, I'm not sure I can do that at all! I've done the whole curved forearm stand, but can't do it without a wall. The String Beans aren't nearly as strong as they need to be. Also, my back is not as flexible as it once was, so that's something else I have to work on.

In your picture, I noticed that your shoulders are nearly over your elbows...I'll have to try it again and see what happens.
