PSA: mercury found in high fructose corn syrup

Great. As if the stuff isn't bad enough to begin with, there are detectable amounts of mercury in about 30% of grocery store products containing high-fructose corn syrup.

The bad news is that nobody knows whether or not their soda or snack food contains HFCS made from ingredients like caustic soda contaminated with mercury. The good news is that mercury-free HFCS ingredients exist. Food companies just need a good push to only use those ingredients

Right, because it would be so crazy to just STOP USING HFCS ALREADY.
I don't even want to get into the part where the FDA did a similar study in 2005, with similar results, and did nothing about it.

Okay, this fills me with glee. I think that stuff is evil anyway, and their lame-butt commercials about "I heard that corn syrup..." "What? I identical to sugar?" nonsense really annoyed me. So now I cannot WAIT to hear how they'll spin this one, tee hee.

thanks for posting this, I hadn't seen it. I try to avoid that crap. Btw, have you seen this spoof on the pro-corn syrup ads on tv?

Aaaand, one more reason not to consume the stuff! Man, I still can't understand the love for 'better living through chemistry'. My motto is: if it doesn't grow the way it's described in the ingredients list, don't eat it. Er, or something like that. (Where my tea? I left it around here somewhere....)
