Another party idea

adapted from when someone was going to throw me a bridal shower, at one point, and I was going to ask for it to be a recipe shower. So how about this idea: a recipe party. Everyone bring one killer recipe typed up nice on a piece of paper. When all are assembled, one person dashes off to the copy center, returning with booklet of great recipes. Yum.

'Course, this could as easily be done by a group of people over email, and with a lot less effort. It just wouldn't be quite as cool. I'd be willing to start such a thing... I'm kinda bored with all my usual food right now.

That sounds very tasty. You could do it as a recurring themed party: appetizers one time, desserts the next, vegetarian entrees after that, etc. By the fourth or fifth time, you'd have a community cookbook fit for selling.

Great idea. It's like a pot-luck.. with documentation! I too am hungry right now, but I think I'll wait until the end of the sox game :P

I'll start thinking of ideas... should the recipes be originals?

I don't think originals are necessary... really, something from a cookbook others don't have is just as yummy. But they should be the favorite recipes one hauls out to either impress people or else have really good food with little effort--you know the ones. :)

I'll try to stir up this effort by email in a bit. Maybe I can get some coworkers into it--there are a couple people here who cook...

Everyone brings the recipe as well as the cooked dish, so we can all try them?

That's more effort, and might be harder to get people who aren't already in The Group. But it would be more fun. You wanna take over the idea and do it at your place? You probably have more & better group-type connections. If I run this, it'd most likely end up being email only.

I wouldn't mind hostin' if you are looking for someone to take over... I have some friends at work who are absolutely amazing cooks, though it would probably bump the average age up 10 years.

Sure, I'd love if someone took over the hosting (I can still help with logistics, and be the one to run to the copy center & whatnot). I've already got the skill sharing happening at my place.

I hereby volunteer to bring Healthy as Hell Muffins and a chicken/potato/onion curry that can be made without the chicken and fed to vegans. 'Course, the one time I did that I forgot about the fish sauce, but that's another story and she never found out, so... um, yeah.

No, I knew, 'member? But I ate it anyway and thus am going to hell, so that's on your head ;-)

J, you're welcome to host. If I recall Chrissy's bbq correctly, the age won't matter one bit since we'll all be captivated by the food.

I refer to HLM's vegan sister, um, HLMVS. And believe me, she did not know and she never found out. <grin>

M and whiplash boy want to be in on this electronically, by the way. I mentioned it to them and whammo, they sent me a lasagne recipe they apparently get begged for. The only question is, do I now have to make it? Hmmmm. I can always just give them my recipes.
