Lazy Christmas

It seems rather trendy to dislike Christmas, these days. I've been flouting that tradition, preferring instead to keep the elements I like (time off work, pretty lights, gifts) and to skip the whole religion-and-family thing.

Thus it was that I spent all of yesterday on the giant beanbag, nestled in with The Dreaming Void and Hypercube (oh, and it's kitten's first Christmas, of course -- how she loves the tree). I bestirred myself for coffee and to cook dinner with [livejournal.com profile] heisenbug, and traded little "Merry day of" emails with [livejournal.com profile] norwoodbridge, and read for hours, and that was it. Delightful.

I'd possibly like Christmas more if I skipped the family bit, though the family part of it does include two of my favorite food-related Christmas traditions. (My mom makes a boozy coffee eggnog that I love, and I also love the English trifle she makes for dessert.) But yeah, mostly my favorite thing about Christmas is the extended break from work: lots of time to read, not having to get up at any particular time on any given day.

This holiday was less weird than some of them have been. Less weird is good. Now if only we can get over the "somewhat haunted" feeling that the holidays have had with everything. I would like a reboot.
