Just because

Because I'm old enough now
to think happiness is a small thing, not large,
because the leaves are like decals on the streets
and because today's light is soft and grey
and because my city smells like the rain--
I'm going to say thanks to you, Cambridge
even though I am slow today
and a lot of things are off-center
and I doubt my wisdom sometimes.
Thank you for the leaves.
