flexagon: (work)

Forgot that work is good as well as bad

A full workweek actually made me feel better about work things. Yes, work is my life again (now and for the foreseeable future), but a week is enough time for some of that work stuff to go well, and I forgot that feels good. I think I need to start paying really close attention to what feels good and what doesn't, because I'm about to have to shed some responsibilities and I want to pick the right ones.

In the meantime, I got onto an important committee that I've wanted to be on for the last two years -- one that wouldn't let me join in the past because my level at work wasn't high enough, but they've relaxed their restrictions. (Hell to the yes, who's in your clubhouse now, directors!? What I mean is, I'm honored to be here.)

Hung out with a very old friend on Saturday and that felt good, too. We spoke of the various troubles of the tech and medical industries, and how we want to fix them, and also played Super Mario Bros 3 for a while.

Went to a handbalancing workshop in which I didn't do super well, but learned some side-bending drills that I liked. The teacher answered a question I've had for a long time, which is: when side bending, do you want to slide your ribcage inside your hip bone or outside? (I have a long ribcage and it's only a few inches from my hip, so I can EASILY bonk those bones together.) Answer: rib inside, hip bone outside.

...the idea of having enough spine flexibility to make those bones come together (i also have a short waist!) is just o.O to me :)

whoa... i didn't know that about the bone alignment! who was the teacher?
also you don't have a short torso/long legs, do you? i don't think of you as being built that way, but i thought that having rib cage close to hip was indicative of a short torso... didn't occur to me it could indicate a long rib cage. (also i think i have too much body fat to allow the bones to touch? i always feel like i'm blocked my skin/fat bunching up rather than bones)

PS i wonder if whether the bones hit in side bends also has to do with where a body carries fat, and/or how narrow the waist is compared to hips and ribs. i have a large waist relative to ribs and hips, and carry fat mostly around my middle, rather than hips/thighs. interesting, so many variables!
