Three good observations, and then my random ones.
As my mom said in email: "At least the surprises have slowed down - not so many daily slams." OK, true, though my Starbucks is entirely closed now and so is our Friday night dinner restaurant (from which we had expected to get takeout).
As Joseph Conrad said, "We live in difficult times, in times of monstrous chimeras and evil dreams and criminal follies. We shall certainly meet once more. It may be some little time, though, before we do. Till then may Heaven send you fruitful reflections!”
And as
coraline said, this near-lockdown is showing up the stark divides between the employed/unemployed and between parents/non-parents. I wasn't seeing the former a lot here, but I popped over to the book of faces (had to discuss my circus school's new online classes, not to mention show off the bug's new haircut by yours truly) and I saw it there. :-( As someone who very consciously prioritized childfree life and a financially stable employer over other things, I don't feel guilty but I do feel bad for a lot of people.
As for me...
I'm getting better at working out at home, and have realized it's a great time for daily "bootcamp" type challenges. I join
coraline in doing 10 chinups a day, why not, and started doing Emmett Louis's head-to-toe routine yesterday. Also some random Youtube tutorials on gliding, also because why not. I recommend Moonwalking the Hard Way for a good discussion of why these footwork-illusion steps are interesting to watch, if anyone else is at all interested.
Took my first virtual fitness-y class today, a floorwork class from the local pole place. It was moderately fun and I learned one move I'm likely to include in my circus act. And speaking of circus act, I've also now ordered and paid for a fully custom costume; in part because doing so feels like creative progress, but also because the place is a small business that creates mostly ravewear and I think the bottom is about to fall out of their market. Circus school has rolled out a few virtual classes and so later this week I'll have the chance to take poi spinning, active flexibility, and handstands.
The house needs far more constant care when we're here all the time, and we're trying to provide. So far we're both being really good about cleaning. No divorces yet.

As for me...
- With digital life as a larger part of things now, I cleaned up some compromised passwords and accounts and fixed a memory problem my phone had been having.
- We paid the cleaners who didn't come, and bought a gift certificate for our Friday night restaurant, and I paid for a handstand lesson that was cancelled. Also wrote to the local circus school indicating my willingness to donate and suggesting / asking about some models for gathering donations (perhaps a monthly gofundme to cover each month's shortfall, as known?).
- I put some time into finding a book I couldn't remember the title of (posted here on
whatwasthatbook and also on Goodreads, where someone found it). Evolution's Shore by Ian McDonald, which I was reminded of by Annihilation.
- My workplace just cancelled its whole performance assessment cycle and said "fuck it, we can't right now, we'll do ratings and promotions in the fall". And hundreds (maybe thousands?) of whiny entitled people immediately went "wahhhh, but my promotion!" People are fucking dying, children, and Search is rolling out features every day that are probably saving lives, so... perspective, hmm?

I've been trying out Yoga with Adriene, though also wondering if I can get my coworker/yoga instructor to do a class by Zoom.
