Indoorsy
Human adaptation continues, in all its terrifying indifference. Time isn't passing quickly or slowly for me anymore (though there is still a huge disconnect between about March 10 and March 12 that feels like an extra season got inserted there, which is freaky). Nala turned 22 and we celebrated her furry-face little birthday, and a week passed otherwise pretty peaceably.
Fitness: I had my best-so-far home handstand class this week as I've gotten more used to doing them in the office and living room, and also really enjoyed online contortion class -- being, as it was, mostly a set of bizarro bodyweight strength moves. I always forget contortion is like that. I signed up again for this week. I got my 30lb BodyBar in the mail, and ugh, yeah, my straddle flexibility has regressed. But now it will return, and I'm sure it regressed less than if I had let my workout go entirely. I stress-bought a few more fitness gadgets last night, too: a calf stretcher, a 2nd yoga block to give me a matching set, and the smallest chirp wheel.
Food: for those in the area, Baldor Food (restaurant supplier) is now delivering straight to consumers as long as you can make a $250 order. Although some items are sold in TOO much bulk, 5lb each of chicken and of hamburger patties was an easy call for us and I'd definitely do that again. I may also be the gleeful owner of 5lb of dried cherries now, not to mention 150 frozen shrimp dumplings. Anyway, the kitchen kicked my ass a little less, partly because
heisenbug cooked at least one night, and did dishes one night when I declared myself out of cope, and put together a big grocery delivery order. I cooked fried rice, beluga lentil salad, burgers including hamburger buns from scratch(!), and a truly ill-fated attempt at a dessert roll that came out terribly. Can't win them all. Tonight we cooked together, and I got maybe a little ahead of things by chopping and freezing 4 cups of chopped onion, and pre-trimming a whole bunch of the chicken breasts.
Work: my good friend
meat_and_breath lost his job suddenly... that might have been the worst thing this week in my personal life. :-/ My own work was okay. I'm actually making progress on the strategic "form up a new team" crap I'm supposed to be doing, and the exec coach is helping me find ways to talk to people I don't naturally connect with very well. And none of this is as useful as my simply giving less of a fuck, thanks to the pandemic, and that the people I'm forcing to change roles or put up with ambiguity are also simply giving less of a fuck. People talk sooo much about being passionate about work, to the point of having extreme feelings about narrow sub-specialties, but I've almost always done better when I cared a bit less. Or a lot less. Helps that I don't really need to care in order to be motivated to work hard, I know.
I do miss people, and faffing about on Book of Faces this morning was surprisingly fun because of remembering the wide variety of friendly humans I know. Social media has its place.
