Joyful book news
Kushiel's Avatar is out in paperback! Yessss... now I know what I'll be reading on the long, long flight west this fine New Year's Day. :)
I was thinking of picking up that along with Gibson's Pattern Recognition, which everyone says is really good and sounds to me a bit like Connie Willis's Bellwether. But I'm not exactly feeling rich right now, since that damn deposit check was indeed cashed on Friday. I have like $600 in the bank and I owe HLM $1700 of that. *snergle* I guess we'll see how I feel when actually in the bookstore.

Re: Oregon
Re: Pattern Recognition...it's funny, I hadn't heard of that book, but when I read it I thought you were talking about Ted Gibson, an MIT prof in Linguistics and I was going to ask if B had gotten you into linguistics. Though, I suppose if that were going to happen it would have already happened.

I adore the Kushiel books. I bought "Kushiel's Avatar" in hardcover, which I never do, but I couldn't stand the wait. I finished it about two days ago. 102 chapters and worth every single page. I thought it was the best of the three.

I may just order it and have it shipped to Oregon so I'll have it for the flight back.
Drat it all to heck
I'm surprised, because the nice people in the specialty SF & F bookstore said January and Amazon says "ships in 24 hours". Deceptive and tricky. I could've sworn there wasn't any stuff about future releasing on there yesterday, but probably I just wasn't reading carefully... sigh.
