Music!

I just bought a ton of music:

• Nude by VAST(what the hell, I've been listening a lot more to Music For People lately...)


• 2 AM Wakeup Call by Tweaker, an entire album about insomnia and dreams


• Floodland by Sisters of Mercy


• Mezzanine by Massive Attack


• Deep Forest by Deep Forest
(the top review says: It's not that different from what we hear today from Fatboy Slim and Moby, except of course with Pygmies. Um, yeah! I must have it!)

• Cantata Mundi by Adiemus (remember the shout-out I gave to their other album, Songs of Sanctuary, lately?)

So, two re-buys of CDs I've owned for years but which have wandered away (the middle two), two albums being heavily compared to NIN's The Fragile (the first two), and two world / new age / whatever. I possibly shouldn't be spending the money, and my CD rack is so full that this will make it overflow and cause a storage crisis, but I so rarely get inspired to explore music that I thought I should take advantage of it. :)

Also, I just discovered pandora.com, which is bad because I have that nagging, tickling feeling that someone else has already posted about it and I forgot and now I'm being a dweeb by acting like I just heard of it. But... it's nifty. You can enter a song that you like, and it makes up a custom "radio station" of songs that are similar to that song in some really sophisticated ways. Give it a shot if you missed that earlier post by whoever already mentioned it.

pandora is pretty cool... although after a while it makes you pay, which is lame lame lame.

if it wasn't for swapping music with friends, i'd never have any, because it's just too damn expensive!

It is too damn expensive... most of what I listed above was bought used. Nice of Amazon to make that easier than it used to be. :)

I had to add that Deep Forest CD to my wishlist once I saw it. I love them.

Yeah, I really liked all the online samples, and the things people had to say. I'll let you know if the album lives up to its promise.

Pandora works well for popular bands. However, if you seed it with a less known band, or a band with a unique sound, you get repeats galore. Try 'Kaki King' and I bet you won't go more than six songs without a repeat.

HLM's done well with semi-obscure prog rock from the 70s and 80s. I guess they have their strengths and weaknesses.

P.S. Yeah -- I got the album yesterday and it DOES live up to its promise. I really really like it. So go back to your wishlist and clicky! :)
