Say whaaaat? Now some stuff that had been purchased from the Amazon registry is back in there. Did someone change their mind or something? Awwww, c'mon now. I liked the Dust Devil.
So last night was the first Dale Carnegie class session (last week's thingie was just the intro). It was pretty cool, actually. I like the way people are being really straightforward about what they need to work on, even the shy ones: hi um, i'm *mumble* and i mmm think I need to work on my self-confidence? and maybe present myself better? The people are nice and there's another engaged girl ( Brief aside ). Last night was mostly about envisioning in some detail where we'd be if we made specific breakthroughs in various peoply-type skills, and in learning that mnemonics work. (Hey nifty. Mnemonics work.)
The one useful trick was learning to introduce ourselves in such a way that people have at least a shot at remembering our names. The trick is a pause before the name so people can prepare to receive it, and then a teensy pause between names and emphasis on the last one. I'm not sure quite how to punctuate it:
Hi! My name is, Rhett Butler.
Hi, my name is: Elle, Woods.
Something like that. It really doesn't sound especially affected, if done right.
And the one super scary thing was that we have to hand out detailed evaluation forms to "eight trusted coworkers" or people who otherwise know us. Jesus. I don't trust anywhere close to eight of the people here! So I gave two of them to friends. And am thanking the powers that be for ensuring that one of my ex-supervisors is on a monthlong vacation and can't fill one out. *grin*
