And I'm not even talking about C++... no, fellow coders, I did spend the last couple of hours reading about such things, but most of the weekend has been about homeowner stuff. (Well, that and getting back into TKD, but there's not much to say about that).

Yesterday morning we went to Home Depot, in response to HLM's urge to have doors that actually latch without being locked, and a new hinge for the front door. That was fine, except that a) all their doorknobs sucked, so we are on a quest for nice doorknobs, and b) I bought and devoured a couple of bathroom design books, which got us all started on bathroom renovation talks again. This morning I was pretty depressed about it all, since it will be a major undertaking and will take more time than I'd like... I'd like to say "Hi, here's $10,000" and have the contractor wave a wand and say "Thanks, here's your new bathroom". By all reports it's not that easy. However, the whole thing did prompt me to write up a wish list for the remodeling project and order the one item I'm certain of wanting, the 24" Filippo mirror from Stratus.

So that's the constructive thing I did today. The destructive thing was cutting a cat door into the bathroom door with HLM's jigsaw so the cats can come in and out without the door having to be cracked for them (showing the toilet, no thanks to whoever designed the room in the first place). I've painted the raw edges, and it looks pretty nice, but to preserve more privacy I think it needs something in it--I'm thinking a little beaded curtain would be adorable. No way am I doing it by hand though. I need to find some pre-beaded string, or maybe large quantities of that stuff keychains are made from.

Because events have conspired this way, we're heading to Home Depot's upscale sister store Expo Design Center tomorrow morning in search of doorknobs, fixtures, etc--and the friends hosting tomorrow's party are meeting us there since they, too, need some things for their bathroom. Too funny. After that I think the plan involves Spidey 2, croquet (or were they kidding about that?) and way too much food in the company of good people. And fireworks on TV, whatever. Have a good Fourth, everyone. :)
