Public transportation - the flip side
Aug. 5th, 2007 12:43 pmI was on the bus yesterday (on the way to help paint
taegubcrusade's new condo!) and the driver was incredibly great to these three Chinese students who were trying to look at an apartment. They weren't sure they were on the right bus, and neither was the driver, and the driver actually called the number of the person they were going to see in order to clarify where they were supposed to go. Then the driver figured out the best way for the kids to get there from the 73 bus route, and drew them a little map while the bus was stopped for a red light, and made sure they got off at the right place, and pointed them the way when they got off.
When I got off I told the driver he'd been really sweet to those kids, and told him the MBTA needed more drivers like him. He said "I'm just so proud of them for managing to get along in this country". Then he said "hey, didn't you used to get off at that office building back there? I remember you." Yeah, I said, I quit there three years ago, I can't believe you remember. And he said he remembers lots of things, and it was nice to see me again, and waved goodbye.
