Plunged into darkness and sent back to work on the same day, oh my god. *groan* It's a little heavy-handed with the symbolism, if you ask me.
I report success on my first day of cardio first thing in the morning, though. I stumbled onto the elliptical at 7:05 and off it at 7:35, and it wasn't so bad; not that I particularly felt like doing it before I did it, oh no, but while actually doing it my biggest discomfort was being thirsty. I drank two water bottles full, having to get off and refill the bottle at the 15 minute mark. Next time, I will try to make myself drink half a bottle before getting on, since I find it a bit freaky to think of my heart trying to move all that extra-thick, dehydrated blood around.
As for the benefits -- it actually woke me up, so that afterward I actually took a shower at awake-person pace and made it to work earlier than I have in quite a while. I think the time saved by being less sleepy-stupid might almost equal the amount of time I spent on the machine. Crazy!
I was also ready to eat right after the elliptical, which is earlier than I've been eating, and I was starving by 11:45, the earliest we can get lunch at work, so I think it did indeed rev up my metabolism for the day. In fact, if I keep doing this I might HAVE to keep eating breakfast at home. I was in quite the stopping-at-Brueggers-on-the-way-in mode for a few months there, but if today is any example I won't be able to wait that long for food anymore.
Side note: I can't really handle music first thing on waking up, but I was able to read my book (and I'm told that knitting would be a disaster, by people who I fully believe have tried it). Perhaps the thing to do is get some guilty-pleasure trashy paperbacks that I read only on the elliptical, so that I have something fluffy to look forward to?
