Playtime lately
Dec. 28th, 2008 06:47 pmNot only did squats go okay today with no back twinging, we finally captured another elusive pose on camera. I've been able to do this for a while now, when warmed up:
It's the first time I've seen myself in the pose. The backbend is obviously deep... what really doesn't show is how tricky a balance it is. And I'd also like to call out, for![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
miyyu especially: it's the second essentially right-side-up picture in a row.
Santa brought me some good stuff this year, the new acroyoga flight manual among them*. When I was opening it (orheisenbug was, actually) I suddenly worried that it was a really weird hobby. Wait, is this weird? I mean am I into a really weird thing? I was assured that it makes perfect sense... for me. Hmmm.
Speaking of acroyoga, I attended an informal playtime on Saturday morning and did several things (as a flyer) that I hadn't done before. Probably the coolest for me was cartwheeling into straddle bat -- it can be done pretty gently and feels neat. And definitely the craziest thing was this: I stood on someone's feet, facing away from them, and then I let a guy pick me up from there into an overhead lift like this one. It was scary but easy -- I didn't have to do much except keep myself tight.
The other people in the room looked over at us and immediately squealed "Dirty Dancing!". Then they started singing I... had... the time of my liiiife... and we all started laughing -- me, the base, the first base and the spotter -- so we had to come down.
*Santa also brought a blue plaid flannel shirt that I promptly spent most of Christmas Day wearing, and a used copy of Kushiel's Mercy that I promptly spent most of Christmas Day reading. In case you can't tell, yes we did do the experiment of buying our own gifts this year.
