heisenbug wrote a post about it which shows the awesome custom gift he gave me... but he didn't mention that he actually wrote to my mother to find out the exact time I was born. Awwwwww.
(It does strike me as a bit sneaky to celebrate round numbers of seconds. It's like an extension of celebrating each anniversary in binary and base ten, so that excitingly round numbers come around more often. With enough number games, there's probably something to celebrate about every day... of course, I'm not saying that's a bad idea. I think it's kind of awesome to know I'm 1,000,000,000 seconds old.)
Anyway, so today he woke up and caught me making him a heart-shaped pancake. You can all go off and puke now, we don't care.
I've been wanting to write a post about how my perceptions of objects have been changing, with my strict rules on not buying anything lately... for instance, I keep finding more books I have in the house but haven't read (including two graphic novels), and I was really extra-excited when my friend B came over for lunch this week and gave me a paperback copy of The Name of the Wind. It's so new. And hey! New objects ARE exciting when one's tolerance has lowered!
So, today I broke down. We were taking a couple of backpacks full of stuff to Goodwill (which is a win in itself) when I decided to check out their sweaters. Sure enough, for $5 each I found three things I will totally wear: a thin gray zip-up layer from Old Navy, a blue sweater very much like my hand-knitted Hild but without the cables 1, and a pair of stretch corduroys from l.e.i. that I thinkrifmeister will approve of. Hee! I am handy and lucky and frugal. And, also, in a good mood.
1 It had a small hole in the shoulder seam. I have mended it, using yarn left over from the Hild.
