The student becomes the teacher
Oct. 28th, 2009 11:46 pmI went to acroyoga tonight and was asked to teach the newbies, so I did. People said I did a good job.
At one point the other half of the room was doing shoulderstands, and I kind of wanted to do a shoulderstand too. The teacher said "you're heading into an entire week of shoulderstands. Tonight, this is your practice."
Not sure how I feel about that. It was a little martial artsy. Didn't I pay to take a class? On the other hand, doesn't teaching something always make you learn it inside out? I guess I didn't mind teaching, but I did feel somewhat robbed of a workout. My newbies said they had a good time though, and I helped them problem-solve, and one of them is a certified Thai massage therapist who I'd love to get a full-length massage from when I get back from vacation.
Speaking of which, I'm now in serious countdown mode. Acro-escape in 5... 4... 3... !
I even have a ride now, thank goodness. After striking out trying to find trains, buses, one-way car rentals, etc, I seriously thought I might be hitchhiking to get there. Can't you just see me out on the side of the road, with my yoga mat in one hand and a little spray-can of Mace in the other?
