What a great Christmas break it's been. I have only one slight issue, and that is that the days are starting to blur together ("Is it Sunday today?"), a dangerous thing that could ultimately make my vacation seem shorter if I let it continue.

Today I got all inspired to improve my "office corner", the tiny plot of living-room territory I call my own. I've been dissatisfied, and while the ultimate solution would be a different condo with a room in it for me, we've talked it over and that's really not happening for a while. Thus, I went on an odyssey for the perfect L-shaped desk today; my current desk is a minimalist 20" by 41", so more work surface is the first step toward having space for more than just my computer. I looked and looked, but all the ones I could find were too big, and when they weren't they were also too deep, 30" or 36".

In frustration I searched for 20" desks directly, and found what I needed at a supplier for elementary schools. I'm going to have a super industrial looking L-desk made from two plain, adjustable, 20" deep kiddie desks. Like this, but without the metal book-boxes underneath:

Kind of punk, huh?
Now to mix it up I'm going to look for some contrastingly luxe task lighting and a good, ergonomic but non-rolling chair... assuming such a thing exists. I've been sitting on a $5 plain wooden chair for years now and I'm a little tired of it.

I wanted to do a bit of a mental catch-up here before leaving for California for a few days.

For a while there I wasn't blogging because of one person's reaction to something (and then my subsequent concerns that I might be hurting other people) but I've recovered. Back to the blog.

And for a while there I was delightedly drowning in books, because this season left me with only two things left on my wish list. Here's our combined haul of books:

For a while I was hosting [livejournal.com profile] apfelsingail, who has more planned for January than I have planned for all of 2010.

And for a while today I was tearing up the wall and ceiling of my half-closet with a claw hammer to see what was behind them... something I need to know so that I can start planning for the built-in drawer-and-shelf unit that's going to take its place as soon as I can get my Very Busy Contractor to come do some demolition. It was dusty, but the news is good: I can make the built-in go all the way to the ceiling.
