Desk nest: all big pieces in place.
Jan. 18th, 2010 10:31 pmHad a so-so long weekend here at chez
flexagon, as responsibilities seemed to overwhelm everything else. (My hobby: getting down on myself about how I can't relax, because yeah, that makes for a GREAT dynamic). I was stuck at home today as I waited for my new chair and new desks to arrive, which was boring until they all arrived and the desks needed assembly... delicious, delicious assembly with a power drill. ;)
As I was assembling the desks I noticed a seam in the periwinkle strip that goes around the edging; assuming that seam would be on the inner side (my side), I put the legs and modesty panel together in the wrong position at first until I noticed the pilot holes on the underside of the desktop. Then I remembered: oh yeah, these are elementary school desks. Does the seam face outward so that the kid using the desk will not see the seam, or is it because nobody is going to be sitting in front of this desk needing to be impressed? The other desks I shopped for were all fake-executive... meant to face outward and definitely to show a good face to the person not behind the desk. Anyway, I went with the designers' intent; smooth sides are toward me.

Note the new edgings on the shelves, creating built-in bookends and (I think) a cleaner look. New desk setup. New chair. Things are not All Done, as the stuff in my old desk drawers is now homeless and I still have an ugly, drippy mess of cords I want to clean up. (Did you know most power strips are wall mountable?) Still, these are all the big pieces. Very different from how it was two weeks ago. :)
Here's a little piece that I still want -- check out these sets of tiny little drawers. Mmmmmm tasty.

Yoga tonight felt very meditative and powerful. Something I love about vinyasa: when I'm doing it I almost never want to be doing anything else. Lately I've been kind of restless and twitchy... I'm glad I have at least one thing like that in my life.
