Single-homed again
Apr. 30th, 2011 04:38 pmYesterday morning, still feeling dazed like I'd just stepped off the plane, I signed my name and
heisenbug's name* a bunch of times and I sold our old condo... which, once upon a time, was our new condo. I did not feel emotional about it, except to feel weirdly satisfied that the buyer looks a lot like a younger version of me. Of course long blonde hair doesn't guarantee that she'll love it and take care of it, but I think she will. I gave her a big folder of receipts for appliances, cabinetry, light fixtures and recent services to the place. She also got seven (!) sets of keys and I think we know of two more that we only remembered about after closing... heh. I hear she's planning to change the locks, and who can blame her?
After closing I went straight to the bank holding our mortgage to sign a rate-lock form on our refinance for our current place, which we can do now that we have money from selling the old one. Then we waited for the call saying that the new deed from closing had been filed, which allowed us to go to the regular bank and cash the enormous check we walked away with. We were timid with the check, but (disconcertingly) depositing it wasn't any harder than depositing any other check.
*I had Power of Attorney, since he wasn't able to make it himself -- that was a first for me. Every line with his name on it was signed with a line like "John A. Smith, by Jane J. Doe, POA".
