Operation Skin
Dec. 3rd, 2011 11:17 pmFollowing up on the time I got a facial and was told my skin was both dehydrated and clogged... I have been a better woman since then, at least along this one axis. At the time the esthetician sold me a scrub and I started using it 3-4 times a week. After I used it, I'd moisturize. Although it felt (and feels) strange to concentrate the moisturizer where the skin is thicker and more clogged (nose, chin) that's what I've been doing -- all that thick skin needs to get more supple if it's to become the clear, supple, any-blackheads-that-dare-enter-will-slide-right-out skin of the esthetician's dreams.
I went back last week, five weeks after the first time, and she seemed pleased; she said she could really tell the difference, and that she was able to get a lot more crud out of my skin this time. Then she sold me a grape seed extract serum to use (she tried to also sell me a moisturizer, but one product at a time is enough, I think. I have a moisturizer already). I like it a lot; it smells like grape seeds, sharp and clean.
In the meantime my nose peeled and peeled, especially on one side, somewhat mysteriously. Maybe my nose skin had gotten too thick, maybe it was from the irritation of the facial itself, but anyway. Shortly after facial #2 the peeling kind of exposed the tops of two or three GRANDADDY blackheads. I squeezed them out (not without some horror -- these were not the usual suspects) and then left my nose strictly alone, and now that part looks remarkably good. I have no doubt it would take time for such things to regrow... they won't be back soon.
So, in short, a worthwhile experiment. My friend Stencil went to this same person for about 6 months running, and felt her skin kept getting better and better the whole time; and that's nice to hear, because it's not like my skin is perfect now. But it's undeniably better, and I plan to keep going back.
