Just a smidge of travel
Jul. 29th, 2012 12:21 amPhiladelphia. The bug and I have been noticing the extreme prevalence of houses painted in two color schemes: half on one side, half on the other. It seems clear that these are either condos in which the responsibility for the exterior is evenly divided, or else they're connected but legally separate houses. Some of them are pretty amusing. There are also a lot of buildings that are brick, but with wooden parts (e.g., bay windows) protruding through holes in the brick.
Then there's this building, which looks like something out of Escher to me because my brain INSISTS on parsing this feature as upside-down arches.

Some of the other wedding guests are staying in this oh-so-Victorian bed and breakfast with us (the room, by the way, is so cluttered that I'm having real problems seeing and finding my own stuff. Am I minimalist or am I mentally deficient?). Today at breakfast they were talking with other guests about being touristy, going to see the Liberty Bell and all that. I realized how totally self-interested I am in comparison: my preparation for the day was finding a gym so that we could work out. Which we did, by the way, and despite the abysmal heat I fell into a very nice rhythm of pullups and dips. 70 of each, in the end. With the help of the abysmal heat I then stretched out my splits and touched down for several seconds on my good side, and felt fantastic. So we'll just count all that as an interesting insight into something I have no intention of changing. Screw tourism anyway.
Last and best, my friend Stencil got married successfully this afternoon -- and she likes the ribbon I knitted her. The entire ceremony and reception were retardedly adorable, of course, and I am glad to play my tiny part in celebrating what is already an epic pairing of good people.
