Circus practice, political activity
May. 12th, 2016 12:06 amNice day at circus school tonight... I held a 60 second handstand in class, according to Pokemon's timer, for the first time. And I pistoned up from standing foot-to-hand to long-arm standing foot-to-hand, a trick I'd thought of but never actually see people doing. Turns out it works fine. I almost got it with
soong; not quite; then I think we each got it, separately, with other people.
I'm also going to be involved in a small paying gig this summer, building a 3-person-high castell with some other folks. I did something similar in 2010 when people were way less experienced (here's the video, complete with awful music), and so I'm sure we can do it again, better, maybe even stacking a single (small) person as the 4th layer this time.
I'm starting to have Feelings about this presidential election we've got going on, and as a result I donated a great deal of cash to a candidate yesterday -- an order of magnitude than ever before and, in fact, the max amount allowed (source). And after the primaries are over, I'll do it again for the Democratic nominee in the general election. I really don't want to be the person who looks in the mirror, after we've elected someone who's on record as wanting to deport all Muslims and possibly fight ISIS with nukes, and say I wasn't even willing to part with $5400 to stop him. Not now when I'm making as much as I am.
