It's been quite the week. Stress at work, because of calibration and peer assessments for promotion candidates being due; and I did those on time, along with other things that were strictly due, but fell horribly behind on email. (Guess what I get to do this weekend?) I also had a friend give notice, as he is being forced out for "time at level" reasons, and took a long draining walk with him to listen to his concerns about the process and to let him vent.

On Thursday I couldn't stand it anymore, and took off on foot across the city chasing Pokemon the moment my meetings ended. Who knew that North Station was so close to the Museum of Science? Not me! By the time I reached my destination, a Pikachu nest, it was no longer warm, and I could start to see how much it's going to suck trying to play in the winter. Got the Pikachus I needed though, and counted myself lucky for the two Dratini I'd encountered on the way.

Tuesday was my wedding anniversary, and [livejournal.com profile] heisenbug and I went to a restaurant recommended by [livejournal.com profile] coraline. Chocolate mousse with cardamom in it and orange marmalade on top is a lovely thing; and we were schmoopy and decided to jointly dress as Jay and Silent Bob for Halloween, which should be great (and not difficult). The truly strange thing about this dinner is that I threw caution to the wind and ate dairy: parmesan cheese, creamy sauce, ricotta in my pasta and I bet that mousse wasn't exactly dairy-free. I was prepared to break out, but I didn't, except for in one bad dream; I seem to have gotten away with it. How? Why?

On Wednesday I did my first backbend kickover in a long time, as my backbend continues to return to me. And Friday I had a great handstand private, in which my coach confirmed that last weekend's breakthrough was real. It wasn't quite there in group classes this week, but today I did three nice straddle-ups for him in a row, and he was so happy! Apparently I've suddenly started doing all the things he's been telling me to do. (I think that, for me, 90% of success comes from the direction of the jump.) We then took a step back and did some work on the handstand canes that I found actually helpful: walking into a kickup, rather than trying a standing symmetrical jump. I did shitty "just get UP there" kickups like the first ones I ever did on the floor, and what do you know? I didn't feel lost, and I got up by myself once. It was a good choice of regression.

Right. Sleep now, so that I can have a productive weekend.
