Happy 2022!

The green bucket for compost has arrived, so that's one thing we'll be doing better this year. I'm also working on getting umbrella liability insurance, and will soon get back to working on my circus act and starting my next program from my Aussie coach.

I'm loving everyone's year-end summaries. I'm done writing my retrospective, but I do that in another form and keep it private. For DW, here's the first sentence I posted each month in 2021, with only slight liberties taken:

I'm laughing at the part where I showed up to to someone's end-of-year bonfire (OK, firepit) in sweats, a sweatshirt, and a black-sequined mask because what else do you do in the Winter of Covid on a night that would normally have been dressy? Recently I saw this quote: take a lover who looks at you like maybe you are magic. I finally have my period after a startling delay... 34 days?? My skin is so, so happy to be off adapalene. All right, that was a miserable two weeks (It's always interesting to see how long a grief event or a Panik really takes me out for). I survived feast-or-famine April, and things basically get better from here, covid-wise. I am having something much like a nervous breakdown -- I know, I know, not a clinical term and I might also have an actual stomach bug. 4.5 weeks since giant crash: I am quietly, carefully humming back toward some level of energy and normalcy. Life continues to be eventful and make for a tired flexagon. Things that I apparently do these days include: collect mosquito bites (sigh). Hilarity has ensued at work as my old manager keeps shoving me away from my old team as fast and hard as she can -- I have no idea what happened to the initial agreement of transferring me on 10/11. It's been a wild week but let's start with the allergy patch testing I just did. Showering is a rather utilitarian affair now that all my products are unscented.

As for my week, I did some unusually deep cleaning in anticipation of house guests: I dug up into the vent covers in our bathrooms and removed the lint of the last ten years, among other glamorous pursuits. It's nice to not look up in the shower and see a dead fly inside the light fixture anymore. Then I made a big batch of tamales and squeezed in one of my long workouts for the coach before our two guests showed up -- these are [personal profile] heisenbug's closest friends, and a few days with them is a NYE tradition that I haven't fully participated in for four years. It's an easy group to keep fed and entertained, but still a group and still in my house, so there's been lots of cooking and dish-doing etc, and we were also taking care of all the neighbor cats for most of it. So far we've gotten away with this small gathering, in that nobody has gotten covid -- there've been the usual logistics, like not sharing airspace with anyone else while they're here (it's been back to outdoor squirrel-walks) and figuring out what bad movies to watch (The VelociPastor and then Mandibles, this year, for those who are morbidly curious). We also did a jigsaw puzzle I'd been saving for this event, Starry Wave, which I like enough as an art mash-up that I want to hang up either the completed puzzle or the poster showing the picture.
