A short week, characterized mostly by taking classes at work, was finished off with a short trip to the Cape with the bug (for fun) and then an overnight in Danvers with the squirrel (for cheap hotel prices -- we're into graduation season around here, and that means everything in town is double its usual price).
The Cape trip was interesting, since we don't usually do random little trips for no reason -- but we noticed that various of our friends do, and I think we wanted to try it. We borrowed Helios's car, which I found oddly comforting to have along (though maybe not so odd? It's familiar to me, after all. And it came with two little stuffed dragons, who I assumed were there as guardians and who we named Ruthie and Toothy). We were both a little cranky after the drive down, which involved heavy traffic, but the next day we were nice and unhurried. We drove around the Woods Hill and Falmouth areas, ate a cherry danish, had lunch with a friend and dinner at a Mexican restaurant with outdoor heat lamps.
We also talked some about the Tori Amos concert from the weekend before, which I didn't even mention in my post about Birdie but did in fact happen last Saturday night! It's gotten us back onto various Tori kicks -- me to the stuff from my late college days, and him more to her earliest work.
Overall, I've decided that traveling is kind of like taking drugs. It makes you spend more time on basic things that are dealt with habitually on most days, and thus pay more attention to the moment. It is probably good for a person in moderation.
Today is the one day I get to have at home to get my life in order before another short workweek and another trip, and that will be it for travel/hosting for a while. Which is nice because I'm also trying to wrangle some professionals into helping us with paperwork, and I'd like some downtime.
