Winter blunderland
Dec. 6th, 2003 10:41 pmMmm, yummy nor'easter. I still don't think a plain old snowfall should count as a storm, per se, but it's definitely pretty (and kind of justifies the cold we've been getting lately). When I wrote this post before, and the computer ate it by crashing (grrr), I was all smug about not having had to shovel, but now it's much later and I have done the shoveling once, so I guess I lose that smugness point. Sigh. ;)
Yesterday was exciting in quite a few ways. First item of interest was condo shopping... we met & liked our realtor, we learned a lot about how to scope out a place for resale value, but the places on the market now are basically infeasible for us. Either they're too far away from the T and partially in a basement space, or else just too run-down (that place on Arcadia Street? Ugh. Decent floors, but bathroom so gross I'd've been pissing out the windows until I could afford to renovate the thing). And we haven't seen anything with a floor plan we like. So, between this initial experience and the fact that our landlords are not eager to let us out of our lease, it's looking very much like we're back on the slow track for this. Next week, of course, it may all seem different. I've gotta hold my emotions steady and remember that this will not be a mansion, just a starter home... but at the same time we certainly have to hold out for something we like a lot. Sigh..... I just wish yesterday had made it more clear that something wonderful would, in fact, eventually present itself. Hopefully the hotter markets of spring will be better. They just have to be.
Second item of interest was
bluechromis's party, of course. It's always great when a gift really hits the right spot with someone, and ours did. Yippeeeee! And even better (for me), my emotions stayed rock solid steady at the bar even though I got drunker than I have in several years, and I was letting myself get separated from HLM at times for the sake of various conversations. I was so pleased with that... I was really expecting the whole anxiety/paranoia thing to kick in. Not that the woozy slow feeling I got for a while was really the best, but at least it wasn't an emotion thing. Sometimes there's nothing better on earth than being plain old okay. Plus I got to see B... and indulge in one other small but rare pleasure I don't care to name, hopefully using my powers for good. Not bad at all for a day that started out with so much work-stress.
Today? Not much. Went to tae kwon do, wrapped presents, cooked food, finished the top of the baby quilt. Tomorrow's actually sounding rather more blizzardy than today... eep, I sure hope the busses are running and I'm able to make it to the gym. :o

Yay
Date: 2003-12-07 07:59 am (UTC)Real estate does seem to be about to break. Attila and I have noticed the change from places going at asking price right away, to some haggling going on, and even a lot of bids coming in significantly underpriced. Since you can afford to wait, it seems like your best bet is to see where things go. This of course comes from my years of real estate experience and extensive research! ;-)
