Today we're supposed to get our final mortgage approval (for the smaller mortgage, the one we had to reapply for). The other side was playing hardball yesterday and threatening to back out, and my stomach was tied in horrible knots all day just as you'd expect, but they did give us an extension through Monday and it looks like we're going to make it just fine. We also signed a big stack of papers for that little loan, and locked our rates on both mortgages, 5.75% for the big one and 5.99% for the small one. (I think that's pretty good for 30-year fixed ones... you can get lower ones with a 15-year fixed, but there are higher payments, or with an ARM, but that means higher payments later and you don't know what they'll be. I say bleh to both those things, for now).

(Update: just fielded a call from the banker, who is annoyed that the purchase price "really" came out to be $100 less than we had figured things on, and I guess that messes up their paperwork because they can't legally finance me for more than 90% under the contract. They say they can still fix it today, and it was my mistake... but... something is weird about this. Who the hell made the laws so that anyone has to give a flying fuck about $100 when hundreds of thousands are flying around? Sigh.)

Also, I joined Bally's last night, much as I'm sure it will count against me in whatever final judgement there may be. :( They had a special offer up for no down payment through the 29th, both on their website and on the wall in their office, but that turned out to be bullshit, or rather "oh sorry, that actually ended a few days ago, it shouldn't be up there". I've seen their advertisements lie before, so I wasn't surprised at all, just disappointed yet again that I'm actually going to be supporting this place for the next 3 years. Yech. I did a very short, somewhat depressed weight workout, noting that a) I wasn't looking too hot and b) all three of the places I can work out now are windowless (well, not true actually, I'm still a Fitness First member until Monday, and I'm going to be there on Sunday, dammit). On the other hand, and this is a biggie, it was nice to be home 7 minutes after leaving the gym, and that walk will get even shorter. Plus they do have better equipment. I'll adjust, I'll have great workouts there eventually. But that doesn't mean I'll ever like the McGym atmosphere of the place.

I'm also going back to tae kwon do tonight after what's become a two week absence. Call me a wimp if you will, but doing TKD in cold like this week's is precisely what fucked up my hamstrings last year, and also I really can't afford to let this cold-the-illness get any worse--I need to be here where the fax machine is, on business days, not out sick or here but with my head not working. No, staying out is what I had to do. Sigh... but tonight is just forms class and that oughta be okay.

Did I mention we lost our apartment nibble? Back to square one on that. But I also keep forgetting, in all this stress, to say that HLM is taking on a 3- to 4-month full-time contract job, so he'll be earning money for the first time in our married life! Yayyyyyy! That means I can at least feel less guilty about the extra expenses he'll be incurring if no nibble bites soon.

So, basically, my nerves are fraying at a perceptible rate, not to mention the cold is freezing me a little more each day... and I feel somewhat offended that these things seem to accumulate in my head and body instead of just going away. In short, I think I'll be well served tonight by a nice evening of pool and decompression in a warm room, and a short skirt, and friends. Happy birthday
