  • Remember what I said two weeks ago about my ex-managers and how they're treating my ex-team? It probably won't play well for them and then I'm going to get blamed, I said? Score a clairvoyance point for me. I found out this week that five more people are leaving that team, and my old director went to my new director and basically warned him that I destroy teams on my way out. Sigh. I did officially transfer this week, so new director is also learning first-hand that I can hire excellent people pretty much instantly, thanks to past connections (and past management) in this space. The team is really welcoming, and it definitely feels like coming home. As for the old org, I'm going to document a few things and complain to the guy doing organizational development back there and then try to forget about them. They're in over their heads.

  • Comics that tickled me this week: Party time, Confidence.

  • My partner acro base, the Monk, had a house offer accepted out in absolute bumfuck -- 1.75 hours away from me driving, and five blocks from a circus school that leaves him with no reason to come train here at all. Except for getting to work with me. I'm not sure I have it in me to find and start over with a new base, so this might be it for me on the high-level partner acro unless something changes. We're still on for weekly lessons until he moves in November or December, and after that it's going to depend on whether he's commuting for work or not. Maybe we can still do the occasional workshop in one location or the other, or maybe it's time for me to go find something else. I have loved acro for such a long, long time though... I don't really know what to do. Given Delta, winter and previous acro-heartbreaks I'm surely headed for a break of some kind, maybe while I focus on contortion (with handbalancing) and/or putting together a solo act. I'll figure it out later.

  • Have I mentioned here that [personal profile] heisenbug, too, is working on going part-time at work? Yeah. I'm still struggling to finalize dates for my leave of absence because Zillian is made of red tape, but he's at a startup and they're cutting him a deal to go to 50% time after the end of October. If I do succeed in going on leave, we're both going to have a lot of extra free time simultaneously. He's suggested that we both do NaNoWriMo and I'm tempted, but also loath to make a 1-month commitment before my break even starts.

  • Books and video games are both happening again, maybe in a sign that life is loosening up a little; I read the graphic novel adaptation of The Jungle this week, and it felt good to stay up late reading. The bug and I have been playing Myst IV: Revelation together on some Friday nights, and an expansion to Outer Wilds came out (Echoes of the Eye) so I've been playing that. Found a really nice spoiler-free guide on YT that I'm linking here for my own reference.

  • I also finally figured out how to order edibles for delivery; delivery itself was a pain but the Hi-5 cannabis seltzers are definitely palatable and effective. Still have chocolate and some lozenges to try out.

  • I took a walk with Helios on the bike path a year ago today and we talked about sadness and families and life. If someone had told me that we were about to click together like magnets, were destined to both leave our other non-domestic partners, and would be decorating a room together a year later, I would have been rather nonplussed. Yet here we are and it feels stable. Going on another walk in a few minutes, in fact.

Ugh, I'm sorry the old team is getting treated that way (and that management is blaming you rather than, oh, themselves for telling you to leave earlier than you'd planned...wtf). Not surprised, alas, but still sorry.

I'm just starting in on Echoes so I've marked that guide for when I get stuck (again); thanks! On my first arrival at the new location, I arrived at...um...slightly more speed than necessary. At least the ship stayed together enough after I slammed it into the entrance to let me get out and take a few steps in to update the ship's log....
