Fun little internet thing of the week: Galactic Snacks. Look, they sell a passionfruit Snickers bar which is apparently a thing in Brazil.

Work re-entry is always strange -- all the corporate garbage starts out meaningless and uninspiring, and then over the course of a few days it starts feeling more real. Generally as actual human beings start asking for things. In this case shit got really real, when one of my direct reports had a parent die suddenly (!). I scrambled for bereavement leave info, and that was the end of feeling disconnected. Sigh.

The weekend was very, very full of things and also very rainy. I think there was a lot of anxiety in the air about it. In the end [personal profile] heisenbug's band decided not to play its potential outdoor gig, and that left just one big excursion on Saturday ([personal profile] coraline's party) and one big excursion on Sunday (the Cure concert).

As for the Cure, we never did manage to upgrade our tickets from "lawn tickets" but the lawn turned out to be nice. And "we" was me, my bug and my squirrel, which they arranged in order to make me happy and IT WORKED! It always works but it worked this time, too. I packed substantial snacks for us all. We splurged slightly on an expensive, easy-out parking lot, and the squirrel de-stressed once we were properly arranged on the lawn. We were all lying on our backs with our knees up in the air, and were apparently so cute that a random lady offered to take a picture of us (awww). As for the concert itself... hell, it was just really special that I got to go. When I saw them in concert a billion years ago in 1996, I really expected it to be a once-in-a-lifetime event. But the world continues to surprise, and Robert Smith can still sing, and there we were! We got really lucky with the playlist -- they did Lullaby and Charlotte Sometimes and Why Can't I Be You, along with the songs they're pretty much always playing on this tour (see here on setlist.fm). Oh, and Prayers For Rain, which were definitely not needed as we did get rained on for a few minutes. I felt relaxed and very happy to be there with my two favorite people -- extra props ESPECIALLY to [personal profile] heisenbug who not only thought up the whole thing, but went and got fries for our little group during the first set. And then I drove us home.

I have some super adorable pictures on my phone, and I won't be surprised if that concert is one of my favorite memories of 2023.

Juneteenth was a day off work, so I had today to recover a little bit, do chores, and get a massage. The therapist had a really interesting insight on my ongoing hip problems, which is that my left waist muscles and my right pecs are both extremely tight. I've been crunching myself up diagonally. Interesting.
