Angst aside, this week was mostly better. January is done now (dry, no-buy January); as of today I've bought an item to replace a broken one and had a single drink. Such wild living, I know! Soon I'll shell out a few dollars for a new puzzle game I found on the phone, too.

I flew under the radar at work and stayed caught up on email. Somehow on Wednesday I found time to make a code change I'd been hoping to make since about November, which will almost certainly be my last "real change" to the main server for Zillian's web search. It was just deleting some error messages from a debug view because they'd become defunct, which means it wasn't urgent and was only on my list because those messages were bothering me personally; and I'm okay with focusing a bit on my personal burn-down list after many years of faithfully serving Kier, I mean doing what seemed best for the company. (Yes, I'm watching Severance -- twice each week, in fact, since both the bug and the squirrel are into it.) Others around me are elbowing for territory and/or trying to get in good with our director, but it's relatively peaceful in my corner. I could've taken one more business trip to California late in Feb, but I don't want to, and this week I told people I'm not going; nope, just nope. There's only one more thing I really want to get done for my own personal satisfaction, and that's where I'll turn my attention next.

A couple of years ago I had "warm pulses" that made me think of menopause and hot flashes. They didn't intensify, they went away; well, let the record show that they're back. They mostly happen when I am indeed doing something that messes with my temperature regulation already, like turning on the fireplace or my heated mattress pad, so it's hard to really say they happen out of nowhere. They do happen though, often result in my turning something off and/or removing some clothing, and a couple of minutes later they're over. Hmmmmm.

What else? Bad things happening in the world still, and plenty of words are being written about it elsewhere. I liked Ezra Klein's 15-minute podcast today though -- "Don't Believe Him". 47 is President, not king, and his attempts to reign by executive order are a sign of weakness because he can't work with Congress effectively. On that note, I also donated to the ACLU Foundation this week, mostly so that I can get my company to match my donation once I get a receipt.

In contortion handstand class today we did the "snake" shape, and I successfully strung together all the foot variations into a little bit of choreo. And yes, also happy Lunar New Year! It's the Year of the Snake... and I was born in the year of the snake. Internet says People born in the year of the snake are said to be resilient and courageous, with strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities, and the snake is considered to be the most tenacious of the 12 zodiac animals. I think it's supposed to be a good year for me, according to Chinese lore. Positive transformation and the like.
