Did I really talk about peace last time? Well, nice to know that concept hasn't fled completely from my life. I might have been fooled otherwise.

My birthday was good--I was sick, but it was still great to go out with friends, and people chipped in to get me the spa gift certificate I was dying for. Oh, and HLM is getting us tickets to see The Lion King (the musical) when it comes through Boston in July. I guess it's a year for experiences, rather than stuff. I can live with that. :)

So for those who didn't see me IRL on Tuesday, I have one more round of interviews at the new company... I speak with six more people tomorrow morning, and then I should hear on Monday whether or not there's an offer on the table. Who knows, who knows... they're interested in me, but I was oddly discouraged at the headhunter's mention of several others who are going through the process. Blech, blech. I hate competition, and I'm kind of wondering why he even mentioned that. To keep me on my toes? As part of the same general unprofessionalism that got him talking about faith during our first meeting? Or just randomly? Doesn't really matter since I won't be working with him long-term, but it's annoying (and LJ is such a great place for whining). I know perfectly well that the only thing to do is walk in assuming they'll take me and nobody else exists, and ask plenty of questions of my own. God, this is just such a tension-filled process though. Right back to playing softball in 5th grade... pick me, pick me! Oh well... I'll be reviewing C++ keywords tonight.

HLM and I are doing much better, after about a week and a half of things not feeling very good at all (and I didn't even mention it, you'll notice, because I've been obsessed with other things--doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that it was at least half my fault). So that's good. He finds out today whether he got a role in a local production of Arcadia, which would be awesome because that's my favorite play in the whole wide world. (Really, I'm still not 100% comfortable with his theatrical leanings, but I knew that... and with any luck he'll at least get the role that doesn't involve kissing anyone.) We had a talk last night about making the relationship a priority this summer even if we're both busy... I think we've gotten out of practice somehow.

My cold also feels much improved today... which means danger. It may feel good, but this is exactly the part where if I stop taking antihistamines my throat will get froggy, and where if I forget my immune system is still weakened I could wind up more sick. Uh-uh, I am not fooled. I'm staying warm and not doing anything. Yesterday I was so messed up and not regulating temperature that I was able to sit out in the noon sun in warm clothing on a hot, muggy day for about 10 minutes and not sweat. 11.5 hours in bed last night did a lot of good, but you can't tell me I'm back to full-on normal already.

Good luck with your interview tomorrow, and glad you're feeling better, even if you don't trust it! :-D

I'm guessing the head-hunter told you about the others to keep you on your toes and nothing more. And didn't you say they're looking to fill 3 spots?

You are going to be #1 ... everyone else is just going to have to deal with the fact that they slip a spot once you join.

Good luck on the interview.:)

That's awesome about theatrical leanings. A man with creativity is always a good person to have around.
