Today was a strange day of plant-related generosity. Someone left several huge yellow squash in the kitchen at lunch with a sign saying "take me", so I took one, figuring I could learn how to cook it. Then I went downstairs to eat in the atrium, where a gardener was watering the plants. I talked to him for 5 or 10 minutes just to pass the time, and the next thing I knew he gave me a plant! It's pretty and has stripes on its leaves. I guess he was really happy to have talked to someone friendly... and now we have a beautiful and mysterious plant in our office.

After all that, I of course had "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell in my head all afternoon. It doesn't seem to be online, but if you have a poetry reference around somewhere, do look it up. It has a lot of great lines, and of course the best use ever of the word "vegetable" in a poem.
