Ohhhhh, do I have egg all over my face. Remember how a while back we had a long saga about being screwed out of $900 by our stupid mortgage company, and being unable to get our money back from the city? Well, today, months after our final request for a refund, we finally got around to sending them a grouchy letter.
Dear City of Somerville Treasury Department,
I can't believe you haven't had the fucking decency to even tell us you won't give our $900 back. It's been 3 months since we sent all that documentation! So tell us yes or no, assholes, and tell us now. Oh yeah, and if you say no we just might have to sue your sorry asses. Or just the mortgage company, but if we do that they'll probably come after you anyway, and you know why? Why that is?? Because YOU HAVE OUR MONEY! You are the ones in whose pocket it resides. You didn't make the mistake that put it there, no, but you have it now, and hiding behind your stupid impossible-to-meet rules in order to not refund it does not change that very simple fact. So give us some kind of answer, damn it, and if we don't hear from you by Nov 1 we're taking that as permission to go after you. Asshats.
Sincerely,
flexy and HLM
Well, that was well and good since it had been so long we were sure they were stonewalling us. However, HLM came back from mailing it, and guess what he found in our mailbox? An envelope from the Somerville treasury. And guess what was in it? One check. For $930.08. After much cursing and trying to figure out if we could get the post office to pull the first letter out of the bin for us (no... it's illegal), we had to send a chaser letter saying "urp, never mind, thanks, and please disregard". At least we got that letter into the same bin as the first one.
*blush*
We couldn't have known, but, yeeks, what were the odds on that one? I'm thrilled that we have our $900 back. But I am really really hoping that McGinn (the treasurer) has a secretary who will get both letters at once, ignore them, and never even tell him the office heard from us.
