Sun Certified... woooot.
Nov. 6th, 2004 02:47 pmAs of about an hour ago I am a Sun Certified Java programmer. I scored slightly lower on the test than I'd've liked, but still came in way above the pass/fail line. So after giving myself a couple of cursory kicks for the questions I missed, and wondering what they were, I turned to the much more pertinent question of where to have lunch. :)
How nice to have the resume padding... because when you have a brand new job that you intend to stay at for a few years, you know that's when you really need it. Heh. There'll probably be a new certification for Java 1.5 that I'll have to take an upgrade test for, before I get around to leaving Politic Frog. And yet, I'm glad I did it. I'm glad I'm finally showing enough interest in my profession to do things like this.

Date: 2004-11-07 01:12 am (UTC)I must add that I have no idea what this would be like for a Java newbie. I already had a fair bit of Java programming experience going into it, and it didn't help me with the nitpickiness but it did help in terms of no concepts being unfamiliar. I guess I would definitely recommend downloading Eclipse (a free Java IDE) and typing in / doing some of the stuff it talks about, if I were in your boat... hell, I was doing some of that myself near the end.
I know from looking around that being Sun certified really is good for the resume. I dunno how people would react to you having that but no professional experience, but it certainly shows something. Willingness to get out and learn, at the very least.
If you decide to do this and I can help you in any way, just let me know. :)

I'm not a complete newbie, I had to learn java for a compiler design course back in college, but that was > 5 years ago. I certainly didn't go very in-depth then... since it wasn't a Java course. It would be interesting... maybe I could get a 'how to program java' book as well and use it for reference, if something goes over my head.

Date: 2004-11-11 11:18 pm (UTC)I've added the book to the Stack O' Stuff for B and J.
We should get together soon-like if you want it! Preferably at my place, because that stack's getting heavy. :)
