Yes yes, I was raised under a rock
Nov. 12th, 2004 10:54 pmI heard a neat-sounding new song in McGym a couple of nights ago, so of course when I came home I googled its lyrics so I could buy it for 99 cents on iTunes today. Um, yeah. The song is London Calling and it came out about 25 years ago. *embarrassment*
The only other interesting thing that happened earlier this week was reading Hybrids, the last book in a trilogy by Robert Sawyer that starts with Hominids and Humans. Wow... such a thoughtful series! The basic premise is that we suddenly have access to a parallel Earth in which the Neanderthals survived instead of the Cro-Magnons, and now have a society that's better than ours in some (most) ways and worse in others. This is, of course, hokey, but that's okay because the main point is to get talks going between one of us and one of them and listen to the arguments. And Sawyer does a very good job of writing those... but I guess I'll save most of my blabbing for the SF board I frequent. I also read Briar Rose, a touching little Holocaust / fairy tale by Jane Yolen. So that's it for the week's bookblogging.
Today... today was very nice. Today was the first day in weeks and weeks that seemed to stretch on for a while... and the things I'm doing at work now are fun by virtue of being "stretch features" for the project I'm on. If I don't finish it by next Friday there's no issue, but if I do finish it the team will be happy. It feels so different from Monday and Tuesday when I was stuck, stuck, stuck on something!
And now it' s the weekend.
miyyu is totally right about how sometimes only the weekends feel like "real" life and the rest is just a role I play, or something that flashes by. Psychologically, the weekend usually feels about as long as the week to me, maybe because I do a large handful of different things in each day instead of just work, work out, sleep. This one started out with sex and will continue with power yoga first thing in the morning with another TKD ex-enthusiast. All good.

Date: 2004-11-13 12:46 pm (UTC)I did notice they got some pretty big-name authors to sign onto the fairy tale series... and I like some of Tanith Lee's other work (The Silver Metal Lover probably being my favorite so far). So, we'll see, and thanks for the recommendation.
