Acquisition hell
Jul. 14th, 2005 08:22 amWell, with 3 days gone this week I've already worked a little over 32 hours on performance testing/tuning our product, and some have made noises about continuing work on the weekend if it doesn't get faster soon. I'm on a plane Sunday and Monday... why didn't I tell them it left Saturday, why, why??. It looks like they could do what my family reunion couldn't, and mess up my long-planned Harry Potter day with HLM. Aggh... here's hoping things look so bad in the next couple of days that the date slips and there's no point.
All this wouldn't be so bad if I weren't having a ton of vacation time stolen this month so that on top of the overwork I haveno vacation balance a negative vacation balance starting in August. Oracle's moving very quickly with the acquisition, and they keep doing things like giving us 23 hours to decide whether to cash out stock options or let them roll over into Oracle stock options... a decision that really matters to a lot of people and has complicated tax ramifications. That pretty much cost the company an afternoon of productivity while everyone scrambled to get facts... while also completely fucking over anyone who may be on vacation this week, since any cash-out checks have to be there by noon today. Nice going, Oracle, way to make us like you. They're also only scheduling their benefit orientation for one day -- Monday -- when I'm out myself.
I really hope that when this paperwork phase is over things can get back to normal at least for a while, whatever normal means. I'm just feeling very "who moved my cheese?" at the moment.
