Foot, this is head; head, this is foot!
Jan. 13th, 2006 09:04 pmWhew. The intermediate yoga class was great tonight; with a focus on arm balances, it didn't even matter that my hamstrings were sore from Wednesday and I couldn't stretch them very much. We did a twisted-eagle balance I don't know the name of, and astavakrasana, and a twisted galavasana. It was a class by a newish teacher, and I often find these to be unintentionally challenging, because they don't realize that not everyone is as advanced a student as they are. (The few sardines in the room, and there were a few, were so lost! I felt bad for them. Someone should've warned them that intermediate means hard.)
Anyway, we didn't do any backbends at all, and since my spine has been improving lately I decided to come home and try a few. And after a few minutes, with the help of a strap, two couches and great muscular force... I touched my right toes to the top of my forehead! I actually knew I was pretty close when I posted this to
bendypeople a while ago... if you imagine that picture, but with the leg just bending more at the knee, the foot would have almost come to the head right there. A pleasant surprise. So I decided to go for it, and it touched.
I'm going to be sore tomorrow -- and you know what? I don't care. :D
It feels SO GOOD to be in a good mood again, finally, and not be sick anymore, and to have achieved something athletic.
