Demolition!
Sep. 6th, 2004 01:52 pmSo, the contractors showed up this morning (three of them: Sandro the Very Cool and two of his helper elves), strung up a bunch of plastic vaguely reminiscent of something from The Andromeda Strain, and started wielding sledgehammers and crowbars in our bathroom. By 10:00 everything was out and they had the walls and ceiling stripped to the studs. They've also knocked a largeish hole in the front stairwell, but as I assume they have to fix this before they go away, I'm not inclined to worry. They are now buzz-sawing up the floor, and I admit it is odd to hear so many banging, crashing, splintering noises from inside one's home. I'm almost immune to it by now, but every now and then an especially alarming sound still sends me running over to see what in the world it could be. It's odd too to see the frame of the house, to be reminded that this pretty smooth-surfaced thing I live in is really just a big wooden box.
P.S. They found an old whiskey bottle hidden inside our wall. Heh. This explains a few things. :)
