A weird discovery, and 90s nostalgia
Apr. 11th, 2005 07:49 amI haven't mentioned that we bought a dishwasher last weekend. It's supposed to arrive on Tuesday, so last night I got started on dismantling our current cabinets (it's amazing how easy it is to take most things apart with a screwdriver and a lot of elbow grease). HLM got home before I succeeded in completely freeing the leftmost one from the wall, so he was the one to look behind it with a flashlight to examine the pipes.
Well, guess what he found? A working electrical outlet! Doesn't sound shocking, I suppose, but for the last year we've thought we had no electricity on that side of the kitchen, and it was one of the major impediments to getting a dishwasher. In fact, we were one short phone call away from scheduling an electrician to come put in that very circuit. Sigh. I can't believe the people who installed these things chose to totally block an outlet. So the final question is whether the thing can indeed just be plugged into the wall, leaving only plumbing work for us to deal with. Does anyone know? We've always thought it would have to be hardwired in, but some DIY installation instructions we found online are quite serene about assuming a 3-prong outlet would be enough.
The other thing we found behind that cabinet is a big yellow poster that obviously was made at some party here a long time ago. It says '70's Memory Lane' at the top and has a bunch of things written on it that, yep, are definitely the 70s. Made me wonder--is it still too early to figure out what made the 90's the 90's, or can we go ahead and be nostalgic now? I tried to think of things that mean the 90s to me...

Hmm. I didn't get too far. Help me out here, all you people who are better at pop culture than I am. :)
