Alphabet soup
Oct. 7th, 2005 08:08 amI haven't shared with you what's up next in writing class. It's a story (okay) exactly 26 sentences long (can you see where this is going?) with a first sentence starting with A and a second sentence starting with B and so forth. The idea is to force us to think about sentence structure, and to write a story good enough that nobody even notices the alphabet hiding in there.
Though this doesn't scare me too much, the end clearly calls to be written first.
Xavier was confident that, even stranded in the middle of the galaxy, he would survive, but he was wrong. Yes, he could have lived for a long time in a life-shuttle -- but you know how many life-shuttles there are on a battle-space-catamaran? Zero!
"What did he get fired for, do you know?"
"Xeroxed his testicles and left a copy in the machine."
"Yuck." Zachary turned, walked into his boss's office, and gave notice then and there.
Theoretically we bang out a story early in the week and then we have time to edit, but I'm not sure how people are managing to write during the workweek. Seems impossible to me. It's taken me since sometime on Wednesday just to write this post.
