HLM is now reading The Machinery of Freedom: A Guide to Radical Capitalism -- I'm now teasing him about taking V for Vendetta a bit more seriously than most,* although he points out that he had it on order before we even decided to watch and read V. I will probably read it too... I've been leaning in the opposite direction in the last year or two, which has been a strange shift for me, and I'd like to at least expose myself to some of these arguments. The truth is that government is not a solved problem -- which is to say, how to get a very large group of people to play well together is not a solved problem -- and this, probably, is why, and so I'm not sure it ever will be solved. In the meantime, it's fun to theorize. :)

I've been made a moderator of [livejournal.com profile] bendypeople. I'll try to make myself useful over there.

I'm taking 20 mg of Prozac now. We went to a lecture on neuropharmacology at MIT tonight, and it only mentioned SSRIs once -- a study showing that people on SSRIs are less likely to correctly identify negative emotions such as fear and disgust on another person's face, but equally likely to correctly identify happy ones. Hmm.

Lastly, giant Ziploc bags full of quarters from the downstairs neighbor's laundry machine are very fun to play with. Stacking them can be more interesting than you might think. Sorting them by year to see what year they made more quarters is also evidently fun (HLM says that 2000 and 1981 were big years, if you are interested). Yay for lots of small metal bits that are all the same shape!

* In V for Vendetta, the book, V is an actual anarchist and goes off into the philosophy of it somewhat. In the movie, he just blows things up... and they took out the main female character's attempt at prostitution, and the policeman taking LSD, as well. I'm not saying I didn't like the movie, but they definitely cleaned things up for it, a lot.
