Guilty pleasures
May. 16th, 2007 07:26 amI've been going nucking futs lately. Mostly, I am planning too many things, and there's a code freeze on Friday and our stuff doesn't work yet. You don't want to hear about these things until I do them -- you want to hear about my guilty sanity-saving pleasures.
First and best, Kushiel's Scion. Because it's out in paperback and I want to read it before Kushiel's Justice comes out. Because I love the lushness of that entire world. Because on page 91 it lets us know what we've all been wondering -- what has Phedre been using for birth control all this time? It was one of Eisheth's gifts to the women of Terre d'Ange -- they did not conceive ere they chose, lighting a candle in her name and praying that she open the gates of their wombs. But there were no guarantees, even so; a prayer might be years in the granting. So that's it. No candle, no pregnant anguisette! Nice solution. I really, really wish our world worked like that.
Knitting... oh all right, reading about knitting. (mutters darkly) I will not be bothering you much about this unless you like; I'll be sharing a knitting blog with two other people over at blogger.com. But I'm fascinated by all the possible textures and stitch patterns, and cables cables cables, and it gives me something graphical to think about, and Chia has given me a LOT of yarn, more than enough to make some sweaters and mittens.
Three graphic novels coming to me in the mail from Amazon, each more messed-up looking than the last. Count 'em: one two (sequel to one) and three!
Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee, my newest addiction.
Daydreaming about summer. I do have some relaxing, slackerish stuff planned -- farmers market visits with
bluechromis, a modern dance class with
heisenbug, a higher prioritization of slacking in general.
