Santa Fe is still there and still filled with loveliness. I took
heisenbug to the Plaza and to the big flea market north of town. We went to the Shidoni bronze foundry at
a_kosmos's recommendation and watched them pouring molten bronze into molds. I ate at my two old favorite restaurants, and took shelter from a sudden afternoon thunderstorm in a bookstore (as is traditional). We saw my mother and her husband, and had some good talks with them. We also saw one of
heisenbug's aunts and had a good talk with her too.

So, a success in a narrow sense. Yet also, the bug got sick, and I mean really the kind of sick you don't want when you're far from home. He didn't get to eat at either of those two favorite restaurants, and most of one day was spent taking him to the Albuquerque hospital where they put 3 liters of fluid into him and said his blood showed signs of a virus. So I was really scared and stressed, and had to do all the driving, and the romantic bits of our trip were completely out of the question, and I'm intensely glad to be home now. Here at least there are cats to apply to the chests and laps of sick people, and we live 3 blocks from a decent ER.
As for minimalism, a town filled with art and oriented toward shopping leads one to respond in a certain way. For a while I thought I had done well, buying a single pair of earrings that had enough drama to stand for the entire trip:

Then I bought three shirts. Dang it. Why does REI have to carry Prana stuff and why must it be so cute?
Lots of reading occurred. Thanks to the plane rides I ended up reading all of The Nature of Order, which followed one of its own recommended patterns in alternating crazy/sane/crazy/sane. I am noticing all kinds of things about the objects around me now: roughness, alternation of pattern, thick borders, something empty in the center, things surrounded by smaller things. Bravely added the sequel to my wish list. I also finished a book lent to me by
dr_alycat that one or more of you will be getting for Xmas this year. :)
Because I didn't relax, and because work has been such a long slog and I really need to recharge before returning, I'm extending my vacation by staying out these last two days of the week.
